Dealing with loss
The Rollercoaster of Life
Many songs and poems have been written on what is, the rollercoaster that we call life. Throughout our life, we will have many ups and many downs. We will gain, and we will lose. Dealing with loss is of course the most difficult. In a world in which the more we have, the more we have to lose, how then best to tackle loss?
Filling the Hole of Loss
We all know experiencing loss forms a whole inside our being. Perhaps it is a loss of:
-
Family member or friend
-
Family Pet
-
Favourite teacher
-
Job
-
Relationship
The list of loss is non-exhaustive. We all hold value to many different people, things, and ideas in life. When they are taken from our lives, it inevitably creates the vacuum which we call, loss.
Many of us will be familiar with the five stages of grief:
-
Denial
-
Anger
-
Depression
-
Bargaining
-
Acceptance
Everyone experiences these stages in different order and quantity. You may also jump from one stage to another and back again to your first stage. Loss is not linear and it takes time. There are, however, things we can incorporate to help in our journey:
It is your journey
Experiencing loss and going through the process of healing and recovery is a truly personal and unique experience for everyone. Hopefully, you can take if even just one suggestion from this blog entry to aid your journey of loss.
Loss is not easy, but we can try to make it a little less difficult.
