Its Movember!
It is time for us to grow all sorts of ridiculous facial hair – laugh at ourselves – be laughed at – and raise money and awareness in the process.
Mark Carolan is participating in the #movember challenge as part of his local GAA club – St. Colmcilles GAA Club
It’s a huge annual event in the club that has expanded year on year.
It has branched out from being us men in our 40’s (and older) raising money and awareness for men’s health, into a community wide collective effort to raise awareness on health.
There are events, talks, charity cycles, football matches, golf, boxing, tug of war, sea swims and so much more run and organised during the month.
The event will raise money for local charities - SOSAD Ireland and Gary Kelly Cancer Support Centre. Two vital charities that need as much funding as possible.
There isn’t anyone who hasn’t been affected by cancer at some point – for Mark with the death of his father of cancer at the age of 57, and how critical cancer and palliative care services were to us, he believes it is vital that he gives back in this space.
And likewise boosting, promoting, assisting and solutioning for mental health challenges is a key component of where Mark finds himself today.
